Bag It: is your life too plastic?

Reader Comments (5)

Ok, our community showed the movie . BAG IT , last night ,and now we want to reduce plastic bag usage in our community. Can you share successful programs which have worked in other places? Do you know how we should embark on the campaign? And, most of all, I am convinced this issue has to be fun, creative, and inspire residents,
too often these environmental issues are ................too intense, and overwhelming

. The Movie BAG IT was so enlightening, but small audience. Do you know why this isn't available on Netflix ?

Any ideas ????? A NJ resident.

Hi, NJresident! And thanks for your comment! You bring up some very good points. Too often the environmental issues do seem overwhelming and intense. Often, that's because they are and sometimes there isn't any getting around the intensity of the issues. But at Throwaway Nation, we try our best to keep the issues accessible and, whenever possible, even entertaining. You're right: if things aren't fun, creative, and inspiring, it's hard to keep anyone's attention.

I'm not sure why Bag It isn't available on Netflix, but I think the film's distribution model is set up somewhat differently than others. I'll look into it more and write about it. I'll also research some successful programs that have worked in other places. Look out for both soon!

Thanks again for commenting!

Hello thanks for reply.
Our local Go Green Committee is considering a Reusable Bag Town Challenge with nearby Coastal town. (don't want to mention yet, because it was just proposed last night)

Looks like Colorado did a successful, clever multi town challenge in Summit County.
Another interesting concept, I like after reading it from some of your links, Is the 21 Day Challenge!
(obviously the idea is that after 21 days something becomes a habit ;)

If you find any other successful programs please share. It appears passing a plastic bag ban via the town council isn't feasible and other communities have hit blocks.

By the way,LOVE YOUR WEBSITE - and the light, amusing, but educational tone here.
Your video clips are super! Great writing, too.
Thanks for any assistance you can provide for our community, and thanks for prompt reply to my message !

Howdy Throw Away Nation-
Have you heard. Surfrider to show Bag It via their website on Sunday?

http://www.surfrider.org/coastal-blog/entry/bag-it-online-screening-this-sunday

Might want to get the word out. Such a convincing way to bring awareness to hazards of plastic, not to mention it's so darn amusing.
Also, if people don't want to watch Sunday's showing, Bag It
people may be able to find it In- a- "library"- near- them.......it's in our library system, and yes, I borrowed it in attempts to spread the word.

Thanks, Throw Away Nation!
Keep up the good work!
